William Spratling (1900-1967) was an extremely talented and highly sought after designer of silver statement jewelry. He was referred to as "the Father of Contemporary Mexican Silver." This incredible piece is an authentic original of his work from the early 1940s. The sunburst statement pendant is embellished with 10 cabochon amethyst stones surrounding a very large, center cabochon amethyst. It has 2 loops on the back so it can be worn as a statement necklace and it also has a pin to be worn as a brooch. This 'Aztec Sun' design appears in "Spratling Silver: A Field Guide" by Phyllis Goddard (Section II, Page 45). Note the featured rear peephole to see light shine through the main stone.
